Performing the Drawing, Flower, Chair, 2015
The three series Performing the Drawing, Flower and Chair were produced in Portugal at the Foundation OBRAS Artist Residency in Evoramonte, Portugal. Wiggins was influenced by the work of Portuguese performance artist Helena Almeida (1934 – 2018), who used her own figure as subject in performative photographs. Wiggins created environments using large pieces of white canvas and black and red fabric.
For the series Performing the Drawing, Wiggins wrapped herself in a large swath of black fabric and lay herself on a white canvas platform. As Wiggins moved her body, she performed a drawing on the canvas. Rui Fernandes shot these images with a camera on a drone. For the works Flower I and Flower II, Wiggins situated herself on a large, red fabric flower. Luís Branco shot the images, as he did the four images with Wiggins and the chair for Chair. These works have shown in the United States and Portugal.
